The Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (NHS DPP) will identify those at high risk and refer them onto a behaviour change programme.
The NHS DPP is a joint commitment from NHS England, Public Health England and Diabetes UK.
Those referred will get tailored, personalised help to reduce their risk of Type 2 diabetes including education on healthy eating and lifestyle, help to lose weight and bespoke physical exercise programmes, all of which together have been proven to reduce the risk of developing the disease.
Mahavir Medical Centre have been awarded with a "Practice Champion" certificate in recognition of their many referrals to this invaluable program.
“As a surgery we’ve all worked extremely hard to refer as many patients onto the programme as possible. It’s such a worthwhile initiative that we are proud to be a part of it and want to continue helping the patients who are at high risk of developing the condition. We plan to continue referring and encouraging everyone to take part, as we want to help drive down the number of type 2 diagnosis figures in West Leicestershire.” Dr T. Darji.
